The authorities of Iran have denied that they have requested to negotiate with the United States, emphasizing that there are no ongoing contacts and that right now the Central Asian country is focused on its defense at a time when Washington and Tehran have stopped the spiral of attacks after thirteen consecutive nights.

“The claims that Iran has requested direct negotiations are false,” said the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baqaei, at a press conference covered by the IRNA agency, in which he described this claim as a “fabrication” by the United States, after both the president, Donald Trump, and the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, insisted that Tehran is “begging” to negotiate the end of the war.
Thus, the Iranian spokesperson stressed that Tehran’s current focus is on defense and not on holding negotiations, after rejecting that it maintains contacts with Washington and reminding that “the only ongoing talks” are bilateral negotiations with Oman for the management of the Strait of Hormuz.

After the cessation of attacks, following thirteen days of exchange of bombings, Baqaei avoided talking about a truce and attributed this scenario to the “prudence” of the Iranian Armed Forces, warning in any case that “any action by the United States will receive an immediate and forceful response.”
Baqaei emphasized during the press conference the breaches of the preliminary agreement with the United States, specifically pointing to elements related to transit through Hormuz, which establishes that Iran will be responsible for setting the format to cross the passage, and stressed that Tehran “should not be considered responsible for the current situation” and pointing to Washington as responsible for the situation.
