The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has urged his United States counterpart, Donald Trump, to continue talks with Iran to end hostilities in the region and that, in any case, the diplomatic route should be prioritized.
In a phone call, the Turkish leader emphasized “highlighting the importance of making the most of the diplomatic route amid tensions between Iran and the United States,” according to his office regarding the contact held with the White House.
“President Erdogan expressed Turkey’s desire for talks to continue and stated that Turkey will continue to support peace efforts,” it said in a statement released on social media.
In the conversation, the Turkish leader cited as an example of cooperation “to ensure regional stability and security” the recent security pact signed with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, where the United States maintains contacts to achieve progress on the ‘roadmap’ and move to the second phase of the peace process, Erdogan denounced “the escalation of actions by the Israeli government against the Palestinians” at a time when efforts are focused on taking steps to achieve lasting peace in the region and the reconstruction of the Strip.
