At a press conference, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baqaei, stressed that the Ukrainian executive must be held accountable for its “illegal and unjustified action.” In his opinion, the action violated the United Nations Charter and constitutes a “dangerous adventure.”
Baqaei stressed that this behavior “will not go unpunished,” according to state channel IRIB, and therefore announced a response from Tehran which, in any case, he did not specify.
This Sunday, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, warning that the attack “will not go unanswered” before denouncing the Ukrainian leader, whom he called a “freeloader,” for acting in the service of Israel to “drag Europe” into Iran’s war.
“Zelensky has attacked an Iranian merchant ship, killing a sailor. A blatant violation of the UN Charter, perpetrated at the behest of Israel to drag Europe into its war,” Araqchi stressed in a harsh message published on social media.
