The New York Police shot dead a suspect on Monday for stabbing two people in Times Square. One person was injured and another died. On Tuesday, the identity of the latter was made public: it is Erin Piacenti, vice president of Bank of America, who was taken to the hospital but ultimately died from her injuries.
Piacenti, 32, was vice president in the business selection and conflicts unit of Bank of America, according to her LinkedIn profile. She was one of the two people stabbed on Monday afternoon in the tourist and theater area, a few blocks from the Bank of America office building in New York.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. She was a valuable team member whom we will miss greatly. Our deepest condolences to her family and all her loved ones,” the American banking giant said in a statement emailed to Reuters on Tuesday.
The other victim was a 68-year-old man whose identity has not been revealed. He was hospitalized and no updated information on his condition was available on Tuesday, The Associated Press reported.
The police identified the attacker on Tuesday as Pamela Cisneros, 49, a resident of Queens. Officers shot and killed her after the stabbing.
Cisneros took two knives out of a shopping bag, stabbed the man, and then attacked Pacenti, police commissioner Jessica Tischen said at a press conference on Monday.
Tisch added that the attacks appeared random and unprovoked. “The investigation continues under the New York City Police Department’s Use of Force Investigation Division,” the institution said in a statement.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said at a press conference on Monday that a woman carrying several knives stabbed two people in Times Square before police used a Taser and fired their weapons.
