The presidents of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the United States, Donald Trump, held a “good meeting” this Tuesday in the Oval Office which served, among other matters, to deepen the need to bet on diplomacy to end the war.

“The president and I discussed licenses for the production of Patriot interceptors and several other ideas that could help. We also talked about diplomacy, it is important that the diplomatic process is revitalized,” Zelensky reported after the meeting at the White House.
These were the first details offered by President Zelensky after leaving his closed-door meeting with the U.S. leader, to whom he expressed his gratitude for the “firm support” that the United States has been showing throughout the conflict with Russia, he said.
A gratitude that Ukrainian authorities have made sure to reiterate after each meeting with their U.S. counterparts or in statements where the issue comes up since that turbulent meeting in February 2025, in which Zelensky was dismissed by Trump and his team, reproaching him for his alleged ingratitude.
“Thank you for everything we do together to protect the lives of Ukrainians and advance peace,” Zelensky wrote in a message on his social networks, in which he took the opportunity to express his condolences for the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, whom he remembered as a “true friend of Ukraine.”
