An explosive attack targeting the facilities of the Norte de Santander Police Department was recorded during the early hours of this Saturday in Cúcuta, Colombia.
Around 3:00 AM, attacks occurred on the dual carriageway connecting Avenida Libertadores with Cenabastos, near the police command.
Colombian media indicate that the attack began with the detonation of a car bomb. This, in addition to the launch of 16 explosive ramps towards the facilities and rifle bursts aimed at the rear of the police complex, in the Sparta units.
The newspaper El Tiempo reported that the offensive left eight police officers injured, three civilians wounded, and caused the death of a police dog. One of the command areas reportedly ended up in flames.
The Government of Norte de Santander offered a reward of up to $100 million in exchange for information leading to the identification and capture of the perpetrators of the attack. The investigation is ongoing and so far the attack has not been attributed to any armed group.
The president-elect of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espirella, condemned the events on his X account. “I absolutely firmly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack carried out in Cúcuta against our National Police. My solidarity goes out to the injured officers, their families, and all citizens who are experiencing moments of anguish today. Terrorism will not intimidate Colombia nor will it break the will of Colombians to live in peace and security,” he stated.
