Paula Data: three experiences to live a gnocchi day

The tradition of gnocchi on the 29th dates back to an ancient Italian legend featuring Saint Pantaleon, a young doctor who, according to the story, during one of his travels was welcomed by a family of peasants who shared a simple plate of gnocchi with him. Before leaving, the man supposedly assured them that they would have a year of good harvests and abundance. The story goes that when they lifted the plate, the family found some coins underneath.

Over time, the legend became a ritual: every 29th gnocchi is served, a bill or coin is placed under the plate, and prosperity is wished for the coming month. In Chile, the custom has also become a good excuse to gather around the table and, more recently, to turn this end-of-month classic into a full experience.

These three proposals invite you to celebrate the 29th in a different way: with dinners, wine, conversations, music, and, of course, a bill under the plate.

Every 29th, this gathering brings women together around a plate of gnocchi, organic wine, and conversations that seek to go a little beyond the everyday. Under the concept “conversation and abundance”, each edition invites open talks about topics such as money, relationships, purpose, or the passage of time, guided by a special guest.

The idea was born from a reflection by its creator on the importance of connections. The longest study on happiness conducted so far, developed by Harvard over more than 80 years, has shown that quality relationships are one of the most important factors for a healthy and satisfying life. From there came a question: where are the spaces to have meaningful conversations among women? “I realized there are few spaces to intentionally discuss topics for which we rarely have room: money, purpose, investments,” says its organizer Francisca Urroz. Thus, this gathering was born, with the conviction that talking can also be a way to build bonds and, why not, to talk about abundance from different perspectives.

In September, the conversation will be led by Romina Capetillo, author of “From dis$order to order” and “Saving is not enough, you have to invest,” and will revolve around financial freedom. The cost is $45,000 per person and includes the plate of gnocchi, organic wine, and the talk. You can reserve your spot at this link.

The experience created by Romina Rubulotta began 13 years ago with the intention of keeping alive the tradition she learned from her mother: preparing gnocchi every 29th. After a long pause, this year she decided to resume it, and on the next September 29th, the second edition of this new cycle will take place.

The proposal combines gastronomy, art, and culture in a dinner whose exact location is kept secret until the reservation is confirmed. During the evening, the food is accompanied by exhibitions, live music, and a small fair of ventures related to gastronomy and crafts, featuring projects in ceramics, bakery, among others.

The ticket costs $8,800 and includes a plate of vegan gnocchi with two sauce options: vegan pomodoro or vegetarian sweet potato sauce, which can also be ordered mixed. The dinner also includes a glass of wine macerated with coriander seeds and orange juice, and a dessert choice between blueberry panna cotta with red wine or grapefruit granita with dark chocolate ganache and pomegranate.

Reservations are made through Instagram @29gnocchi or by email at 29diadelgnocchi@gmail.com, via bank deposit. The exact address is provided once the reservation is confirmed.

This experience aims to expand the social circle of single people over 35 years old, creating spaces to meet others with similar interests and lifestyles. The proposal has had different versions, including gatherings for men and women and a special edition designed for gay men, but all share a common point: bringing together people aged 35 and over in an intimate and cared-for environment.

To participate, it is necessary to complete a form in advance detailing personal interests, information that then allows selecting participants and forming groups as compatible as possible. The experience begins with icebreaker activities to get to know each other, then moves on to a shared dinner of gnocchi with homemade sauces, accompanied by wine, sparkling wine, and other drinks. The idea is for conversation and connections to continue beyond the table, so some editions also include invitations to subsequent activities, such as after-office events and parties for those over 35.

And if you prefer to celebrate at home, you can also turn the 29th into an occasion to share with friends or family. In Paula’s archive, we have a recipe to prepare delicious spinach gnocchi with shrimp sauce, an alternative to cook together, sit around the table, and keep the tradition alive. Because abundance can also be celebrated in the company of those we love most and, this time, with hands in the dough.
