The visual memory of three outstanding Chilean photographers will be the protagonist of the opening day of the StgoFoto 2026 photobook festival. As part of its fifth edition, which will take place between July 30 and August 2 at the La Moneda Cultural Center, three publications will be presented that rescue and revisit the work of Mariana Matthews, Julia Toro, and Elena Concha Silva, three authors whose perspectives have marked the history of national photography from different territories, generations, and languages.

The launches, scheduled for Thursday, July 30, are part of a day specially dedicated to publications and research on women’s archives. More than presenting new books, the activities seek to highlight the legacy of creators whose work has remained relevant and continues to inspire new generations of photographers, researchers, and readers.
“Photographic Anthology” is a publication by Ediciones Universidad Austral de Chile with selection and texts by Ignacio Szmulewicz. The volume brings together for the first time more than four decades of work by the renowned photographer from southern Chile, incorporating unpublished images alongside works exhibited both in the country and abroad. The presentation will also feature the participation of visual artist and photographer Jocelyne Rodríguez Droguett.
Edited by Espe Fuentes Espinoza and Ivón Figueroa Taucán and published by Almacén Editorial, it is the first photobook dedicated to Elena Concha Silva, which recovers more than forty years of photographs taken in Maule Sur and rescues an archive of more than five thousand images that remained safeguarded for decades. The publication offers a comprehensive view of the work of the Parral photographer and contributes to expanding knowledge about her legacy.

Published by Fluq Ediciones, this photobook is dedicated to Julia Toro, a 92-year-old visual artist and one of the most influential figures in author photography in Chile. With design by Erwin Velasco and editing by Hugo Ángel and Velasco himself, the book proposes a new reading of the artist’s trajectory, delving into the roots of a body of work that has influenced generations of photographers. The event will feature the presence of Julia Toro herself.

The fifth edition of StgoFoto will take place between July 30 and August 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the La Moneda Cultural Center (Plaza de la Ciudadanía 26, Santiago). Admission is free.
